10 best poker apps and games for Android

Appeak is one of the up and coming poker apps. It boasts over 100,000 active players, in-game challenges to keep things fun, and a simple UI that puts the game first. The game gives you 7000 free coins per day just in case you happen to run out. You ll be able to engage in sit-and-go tournaments and regular poker games if you want to. It s fairly simple overall. Additionally, it doesn t hit the pay-to-win nerve as hard as many others. It s great, especially if you enjoy playing against real people.

Governor of Poker 3

Price: Free with in-app purchases

Governor of Poker 3 is one of the more run-of-the-mill poker apps on Android. It has a ton of features and play types. There are six different poker types to play (including Texas Hold em), online games, and there s even a blackjack game. It gives you chips every four hours along with a spinner that can give you more. It also comes with cross-platform support. You can play on the web via Facebook, Steam, iOS, and Android. Some reviewers have complained about the poor odds of winning. However, that s how gambling kind of works. It s fun as long as you don t take it too seriously.

The 10 Best Free Poker Apps for Android and iPhone

The free poker apps section is one of the most popular, lucrative and bloated categories of any app store. There are hundreds of apps designed to let you play poker, get better at poker or even just watch poker. The vast majority of those apps are, well … not so good.

Best poker apps 2021

That said there are some surprisingly fun or useful poker apps that you can download for absolutely nothing. Fortunately for you we ve compiled a short-list of the very best free poker apps on the internet.

Every single one of these apps is free and they run the gamut from games, productivity apps or even streaming services. Just take a quick look at the following compilation and get downloading!

If you're already familiar with the rules of poker and want to get right into the thrill of betting and winning for real, there are a few good options. The best is 888 Poker, a trustworthy and nicely produced poker app that will get you playing in no time and, with very soft games for beginners, give you a decent shot of making some real money.

There are other nice mobile apps out there (PokerStars being one, of course), but with ultra tough games we don't recommend it for players new to online poker. Give 888poker a try right now by clicking the "Get Bonus" button on the right. If you're not ready to play for real cash 888poker also offers free play-money games where you learn the ropes with virtual poker chips.

Once you've given 888poker a go make sure to check out our other recommendations for mobile online poker sites where you can play for real money.

Top Online Poker Apps

Other apps made specifically for playing poker on your mobile for free:

1. Appeak Poker

Appeak Poker is still our pick for best free poker app with an incredibly simple interface that makes online poker a snap.

The app offers Play Now, which will get you into a quick game right away in addition to Sit Go s, Bingo Bango, Double Ups and MTTs.

Appeak also offers a couple unique ones such as the Duel functionality where you will face off against another player while representing your country. It s all fun but the Play Now button is what most people will spend the most time clicking.

Pure poker. That s what Appeak Poker is all about. You won t find a bunch of clutter in the app and the interface is strikingly simple.

We re talking about a table, cards and a chatbox and that s pretty much it. It s a nice change from poker apps that will constantly try to sell you bonus chips or various side games like BlackJack or Roulette.

Appeak is lightning fast and you can be playing within seconds of booting up the app. Some people might find the barebone graphics a bit of a detractor but we like it much better than some of the needlessly complicated iPhone poker sites.

Appeak also offers its patented duels matches where you can represent your country against another country. There s not a ton of depth to the feature but it s certainly worth trying.

The site also offers a highly-competitive leaderboard for those looking to truly challenge themselves. One of the best qualities of Appeak Poker is that it s not too cluttered and it doesn t constantly nag you to buy more chips.

Appeak hasn t changed that much over the years but it remains one of the fastest, lightweight poker experiences around. This year the site added customizable avatars, which is a nice touch.

This year Appeak also added support for Chinese, which should bring in a massive contingent of new players.

2. Governor of Poker 3

Want a relaxing, somewhat-mindless poker game? Look no further than Governor of Poker 1-3. The latest edition is by far the best, even allowing you to play multiplayer poker with friends or challenge new players - for free!

So you can easily use this app to learn more about playing Texas Hold'em poker, or raise the stakes and win more by trying new techniques and skills. The game is certified fair using RNG (random number generators).

There are in-app purchases available for free chips packages, avatars, and more. However, you do get a $30,000 free chips welcome package and avatar. Plus free chips topped up every four hours.

  • Type: Free, casual poker app

  • Pro: 7 poker game formats, form poker teams, play with friends, missions/achievements
  • Con: Shallow experience, play only against weak players

3. SnapShove

SnapShove, which was created by poker pro Max Silver, might be our favorite new app. This one is a tool, not a game, but it s got a lot going for it.

If you want to improve your shove/fold ranges then there s really no better app for you. We also love the simplified, uncluttered interface and wish more poker apps would take this bare-bones approach.

The free version of SnapShove gives you access to 9-handed and 6-handed shoving calculators as well as training. We particularly like the training options as it s a quick way to brush up on proper strategy.

SnapShove Pro costs $14.99 currently but it gives you access to a shove-fold calculator with any number of players in addition to a calling calculator and more training options as well.

There s a very good chance SnapShove Pro will pay for itself right away if you re having trouble with SnapShove ranges.

  • Platforms: iOS, Android
  • Size: 61mb
  • Type: Strategy tool
  • Released: 2016
  • Spam level: Low
  • Pro: Great tool for learning shove/fold ranges
  • Con: Somewhat limited free version

4. World Poker Club

World Poker Club is a rather standard poker app with one killer feature: It has an innovative gesture system.

While the poker app has the normal buttons for check/bet/fold it also has touch-based gestures for each one. Double tap means check/call. Flick up means fold and finally holding down and slowly dragging up will bring out a raise slider.

It works surprisingly well and it wouldn t be a complete surprise to see some of the bigger free poker apps utilize this feature.

World Poker Club does have a considerable amount of nagware but it s worth downloading just to try out the gesture system. If nothing else it s a change from the usual free poker games.

  • Platforms: iOS, Android
  • Size: 95mb
  • Type: Casual poker game
  • Released: 2016
  • Spam level: High
  • Pro: Innovative gesture system
  • Con: Merely average game

5. Jackpot Poker (PokerStars)

Jackpot Poker is a rather robust free-to-play option from PokerStars. Previously known as PokerStars Play, Jackpot Poker gets a lot of its heritage from the popular PokerStars Facebook app of the same name.

The main focus is three-player Jackpot Poker games, which should be familiar to anyone who's played Spin Go games on the real-money PokerStars site.

There are also cash games but PokerStars puts the emphasis on Jackpot Poker, which has three players competing for a prize that randomly spikes.

It s great way to learn poker strategy because it s action-packed and you actually have to develop reads on your opponents rather than just sit back and wait for premium hands like pocket aces or pocket kings.

Other features include simple table non-toxic table emotes, a few strategy lessons and swipe and flick controls. Fast and fun. That s the name of the game with Jackpot Poker.

  • Platforms: iOS, Android, Facebook
  • Size: 75 mb
  • Type: Casual poker game
  • Released: 2015
  • Spam level: Medium. It will certainly try to sell you on buying more chips.
  • Pro: Jackpot Poker is an incredibly fun format of poker to play on a mobile device.
  • Con: Hold em only. There s no support for Pot-Limit Omaha.

6. Zynga Poker

The original Facebook poker game got a much needed kick in the pants in 2015 with a massive update that includes Jump Poker.

Jump Poker is a Fast Fold poker variant where players instantly get a new hand after they ve folded. In helps pump up the action since you re only playing one table at a time. In fact we tend to find the normal games quite boring on Zynga Poker now thanks to Jump Poker.

Zynga Poker also offers Sit Go s for players looking to move beyond cash games. One of the busiest poker sites on the planet (even compared to real-money poker sites) you ll never have any trouble finding a game on Zynga.

Once one of the most cluttered poker games in existence, Zynga has toned back with the new software update although we personally still find it a bit too busy for our liking.

  • Platforms: iOS, Android, Windows Phone
  • Size: 97 mb
  • Type: Casual poker game
  • Released: 2007
  • Spam level: Fairly high
  • Pro: Jump Poker is an awesome addition to Zynga Poker.
  • Con: Still pretty cluttered. Shootout tournaments only available on Facebook version.

7. World Series of Poker

If you follow poker at all there s a good chance you ve already heard of the World Series of Poker. The most famous poker series in the world also has free-to-play app that s one of the better ones on that market.

Designed by big-time game developer EA, World Series of Poker offers a solid interface and plenty of free chips to get you started.

World Series of Poker does have one killer feature that most of the other free-to-play apps don t: Pot-Limit Omaha. For anyone that s bored of No-Limit Hold em then four-card PLO is a fantastic way to switch up your poker playing schedule.

There s plenty of World Series branding including the ability to win virtual WSOP bracelets and rings.

  • Platforms: iOS, Android
  • Size: 75 mb.
  • Type: Casual poker game
  • Released: 2012
  • Spam Level: Medium
  • Pro: Pot-Limit Omaha! Finally not limited to NLHE.
  • Con: Not available in all regions.

8. Share My Pair

There s a good chance you may have heard about Share My Pair through one of Phil Hellmuth s various Tweets that utilize the app.

Hellmuth is of course one of the promoters behind the app, which allows players to enter data and then display a recent poker hand visually.

You can then share your hand via Twitter, Facebook, email or text message. It s much, much easier to follow the action through Share My Pair versus a lengthy series of text messages or a long email.

It s not perfect, however, and our criticism of the app is that it takes a considerable amount of time to enter all the information so that a hand displays correctly. Not to mention the fact there s likely a considerable amount of user error.

That said if you re looking to share a particular hand with a lot of people (whether it s fans or backers) there s really no better way to do it.

  • Platforms: Android, iOS
  • Size: 32mb
  • Type: Visual hand-replayer
  • Released: 2013
  • Spam Level: Low
  • Pro: Better than listening to bad beat stories.
  • Con: Time-consuming to enter all the information.

9. Pineapple!

Ask any poker pro what they play the most on their phone and there s a good chance they ll say Open Face Chinese Poker. The game is timeless and the perfect way to spend a few hours on a flight or trip if you ve got two-three players.

Of course there are numerous OFC apps but we really like Pineapple! Because Pineapple! looks great, costs nothing and offers great security (it was actually the world s fist RNG-certified mobile OFC app). In addition Pineapple! offers a variety of game modes including Pineapple (with fantasy land!), regular OFC and low in the middle. Finally Pineapple doesn t require any sort of log-in and doesn t require your Facebook account.

  • Platforms: iOS
  • Size: 20 MB
  • Type: Open-Face Chinese Poker
  • Released: 2013
  • Spam Level: Low
  • Pro: Incredibly fun way to kill time and play OFC (which is not offered often).
  • Con: Requires an internet connection.

10. Poker Central

Poker Central is a game-changing app that allows viewers to watch poker on demand 24/7. It s essentially the Netflix of poker and it s somewhat surprising it took

someone this long to capitalize on the rather lengthy backlog of poker TV shows.

One of Poker Central's key features is the fact it s available for a wide variety of platforms including mobile (iOS, Android) and at home (Xbox One, Apple TV, Amazon Fire, Roku).

Poker Central is pretty much the greatest background noise for hosting a home game. The one knock on Poker Central is that some of programming isn t exactly top notch and you won t find any WSOP or EPTepisodes.

That said there s still some good programs (much love for High Stakes Poker) and Poker Central s original programming like the Aria Super High Roller Series is also very good. If you're a poker fan this app is pretty much a no brainer.
